Homestay services

Nurturing, individualised boarding for your pet, in the comfort of a vet nurse’s home.

I get many requests for boarding animals with special needs. Most of these pets require round the clock care and monitoring. Friends and family aren't always experienced in reading and understanding the medical needs of a pet. Nor may they have the available time, resources or a suitable environment.

I know there is nothing worse than being away from your pet when they are at their most fragile. The Homestay service developed from the desire to ease your worry while you are overseas and to nurture the beloved ones waiting for your return.

Your pet will be cared for in the comfort of my own home, where their needs will be met with warmth, nurturing and professional understanding. In most cases, only one border will be accepted at a time to ensure full attention is given to their stay.

Home boarding care benefits you and your pet by providing:

  • Individualised care tailored to your pet’s needs

  • A comfy cage, bed, or room for sleeping quarters (many options available)

  • 24-hour care,

  • Daily correspondence and updates (if required) via text messages, emails, photos or videos to keep you connected,

  • A comfortable, warm, homely environment.

  • Large, fully fenced property with great lawn for playing on and surrounding trees and gardens for exploring (for dogs)

  • Large house with two storeys and numerous rooms so the environment will be set up appropriately for your pet's comfort and enrichment. (sociable or solitary, stairs or flat, access to outside or cage restricted, dimly lit or bright and sunny.)

  • Other sociable and friendly pets reside in the house and make fantastic furry nurses. They can be kept entirely separate from your animal, or are adept at providing moral support, play, stimulation, enrichment, exercise, or 'snuggle buddies' if your boarding pet desires.

Daily care may include:

  • Medicating,

  • Fluid therapy (as directed by your veterinarian),

  • Assisted toileting, bladder expression or carrying to the toilet

  • Massage, physiotherapy exercises,

  • Specific daily exercise regime or walks,

  • Environmental enrichment (games, toys, treats)

  • Grooming and bathing,

  • Hand feeding, syringe feeding, bottle feeding, nasogastric or esophagostomy tube feeding

    (as directed by your veterinarian),

  • Palliative care for elderly, frail, or pregnant animals

  • Postoperative care for pets recuperating from large surgeries and or orthopaedic rehabilitation

  • Transport to follow up vet appointments,  specialist appointments or rehabilitation appointments such as hydrotherapy or physiotherapy

This service is only available for veterinarian deemed 'medically stable' pets.

Your pet's veterinarian may be consulted prior to boarding. Each stay is carefully planned with you and your vet where necessary.

This service does not replace veterinary hospitalisation and treatment.
