Subcutaneous fluid therapy for pets with renal disease
Your veterinarian may recommend subcutaneous fluid therapy (SQ fluids or Subcut fluids) if your pet is diagnosed with renal disease, (CKD, kidney disease, kidney failure). Constipation issues, geriatric or palliative care and other illnesses may also require subcutaneous fluid therapy.
I will liaise with your veterinarian regarding the type of fluid, amount and regularity of treatment. I will treat your animal in the comfort of your home, and in their favourite spot.
Why is subcut fluid therapy beneficial for your pet?
Subcutaneous fluid therapy is highly beneficial for pets with renal disease. It helps manage dehydration, a common issue due to reduced kidney function. By delivering fluids directly under the skin, this treatment helps maintain hydration, support kidney function, and flush out waste products more efficiently. It can also reduce symptoms like lethargy, poor appetite, and vomiting.
Regular fluid therapy also helps stabilise electrolyte levels and improve overall well-being, allowing pets to feel better and maintain a more normal quality of life. Administering fluids at home offers convenience and reduces stress for both the pet and owner, ensuring consistent care.
