Whingey Boi

Whingey Boi has stolen my heart! 💞

He arrived in my neighbourhood a few months ago. A semi-wild boy, living rough. I noticed him as he had a nasty abscess on his back that had ruptured, and he looked ragged. He would appear every few days or so howling the neighbourhood down. I started leaving food out at night when my cats were all locked in.

As time passed, I saw him more often, and on many occasions, I saw him sitting in the next-door driveway with my cats close by, almost like they were buddies having a wee chat. I started calling him Gingey Puss and kept putting food out, closer and closer to my back door. He would disappear for days at a time, and then reappear again in the hood for a few days.

Then one day I heard him howling the streets down again, and I saw him in my back garden. I was now calling him the Gingey Whinger! I called out my usual 'dinner time' call and went inside and prepared food for my cats. Then I sat inside the back door and saw through the clear glass that he had crept up the steps for food. I reached through the cat flap and put food down. He ate whilst watching me constantly through the cat door.

A couple of nights passed and he returned, and this time he was howling down the back door calling for his dinner! I put food down, and he ate right there with me by his side! I even managed a couple of strokes. He ate so much food! He must have been so full, but he was still ravenous. His skin was full of scratch wounds and his face was scarred. He was skinny but really muscly and his legs thickened from so many bites and fight wounds. He was unneutered and had the typical chubby cheeks that develop with entire Tom cats. He also smelt pretty bad! But his face was so expressive, and his eyes had the cutest bewildered sad expression on them.

He visited regularly over the next few days, then disappeared again. I could pat him a little, and although he was nervous, I could see he was responsive to the affection. I scanned him for a microchip. No chance. A couple of weeks passed. He would return every few days with new, fresh battle wounds and starving hungry. Then one day he had been gone for three days and returned with the worst looking, bloody wound on his front leg. I decided the time had come to catch him.

……..

Embarrassingly enough, it was super easy! I placed a crate at the back door and left it open. In the morning, I put food inside, and he just walked straight in to eat.

The vets were amazing! I phoned them and explained that I had a stray cat in a trap that needed surgery. it was a Monday and they were slammed, but they still said yes. They cleaned him up, neutered him, microchipped him and took a blood sample to test for FIV. He had a long-lasting antibiotic injection and anti-inflammatory pain relief for his fight wounds.

He spent the next couple of nights in the bathroom.

He will likely spend another couple of nights in. But he just can’t stay. My house is overflowing with cats.

He is the smoochiest boy and has such a goofy face! He is really expressive and really chatty! He loves food, and will be your bestest buddy for a treat. He really is sweet, and although he has lived it rough, he seems to get on pretty well with my crew. He must have had a home once, but without being microchipped or neutered, I think that would have been a lifetime ago.

Please help me find him a loving home! He is a sweetheart, and life has been rough. He isn’t really a tough guy, and the streets are no place for him. What he really wants is to Netflix and chill with a family full of love.

He is microchipped, neutered, flea treated and wormed, FIV tested (results) and will have had his first vaccine by the time he goes. He will need a dental as he has a couple of fractured teeth. He doesn’t seem any older than two years old to me.

***UPDATE*** Whingy Boi’s FIV test came back positive. He will ideally live in a house on his own, or with other cats that are vaccinated against FIV. This is very manageable. He has been with me for weeks now, and is such a cuddly cat who just wants to sleep on the couch, next to his humans, and eat all day long!
